The New Mexican landscape ranges from wide, rose-colored deserts to broken mesas to high, snow-capped peaks. Despite New Mexico’s arid image, heavily forested mountain wildernesses cover a significant portion of the state, especially towards the north. The climate is generally semi-arid to arid, though there are areas of continental and alpine climates, and its teritorry is mostly covered by mountains, high plains, and desert. Because of warm and dry weather, New Mexico is an important tourist destination in U.S., providing an opportunity for year-round vacations.
